Baylands Information

Printer-friendly version

The Brisbane Baylands encompasses approximately 660 acres, generally bordered on the west by Bayshore Boulevard, north by the City and County of San Francisco, east by the U.S. Hwy 101 causeway, and south by Brisbane Lagoon.  It is comprised of a former municipal landfill and former rail yard and presents both exciting opportunities and formidable challenges for the City.  The site's history left a legacy of contamination requiring millions of dollars and years of remediation, which is still ongoing.  Yet the remediated site holds the promise of enhanced environmental quality, opportunities for use and enjoyment by Brisbane residents via trails and enhanced open spaces, and new sustainable development contributing to the City's economic health, social diversity, and environment.

The City is committed to a planning process which engages the community and maximizes opportunities for open dialogue and input along with public review and comment.   To help in this dialogue the City has established and maintains this web site.  You may direct general comments or questions regarding the Baylands to planning@ci.brisbane.ca.us.   Also, for general information on recent and future activities see the Overview Chart and the outline of the Sequence of Events.

New Information

The Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) has been under preparation by the City’s consultant and publication of the Draft EIR is scheduled for this summer. Publication of the draft EIR is an important step which will initiate a public comment period where the public, public agencies and other interested parties will have the opportunity to review the Draft EIR and submit written comments on the document. The City Council is committed to ensuring that City procedures will allow for a thorough, well-defined and efficient opportunity for public review.

To this end, the City Council has already determined that a 120- day public comment period will be provided, where typically the comment period is limited to 60 days.  The City Council has also committed to providing a training workshop for the community and city boards and commissions before the draft EIR is published.  The community training workshop has been scheduled for June 16th, from 12 to 3 pm, in the Community Meeting Room at City Hall, 50 Park Place.  So save the date and join in with your neighbors in this FREE TRAINING on environmental impact reports.   At this training you will learn about the environmental review process, how to read this technical document, and how you can effectively participate in the decision-making process.

We'd love to see you there but if you can't make it down to City Hall that day, the event will be televised on live Cable Channel 27 and webcast on the Live Streaming page. More information on this training will be coming in the next several weeks on this webpage and the next edition of the Brisbane CityNews.
